Convocation Sells Out

Days in advance and the spring convocation at Elon University is already sold out.

On April 7th at 3:30 the university will hold their annual spring convocation honoring the students who have made the Dean’s and President’s list alike for academic excellence.  However, this year the event offers a little more to the student body than what the typical program entails.

Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, will serve as one of several well known panelists who will speaking on April 7th.  The award winning journalist will be hosting a discussion forum entitled, “We can be better: Courageous voices confront our greatest challenges”. Accompanied by five other renowned panelists such as David Gergen, David Levin and Shirley Ann Jackson, topics such as democracy, education and environmental sustainability will as be discussed in depth.

Tickets for the annual event went on sale as early as March 17th, however now just days before Williams is set to arrive on campus, there are none left for students.  Whether students are required to attend for classes or are just curious to hear Williams speak, many are now left unable to attend the event.

Convocation is open not only to students and faculty but to the general public as well which may be the cause of the sudden sell out. Some students are so desperate for tickets they have even posted ads on E-Net!.

For those not able to get tickets in time a live streaming has been set up to run in McCrary Theater on a first come first serve basis.
